Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Christmas Truck

Here are the stitches used on this model:
Background—Skip Tent:
An easy stitch that is simply a traditional needlepoint tent stitch with every other stitch left empty, so it forms this pretty pattern. You can work this in horizontal rows back and forth (Continental Skip Tent) or in diagonal rows (Basketweave Skip Tent) as shown in this diagram below.

Truck—Upright Cross:
It may not seem intuitive, but this stitch is best worked in diagonal lines, as per the diagram.

Tree—Slanted Gobelin stitch sloping down and to the left:
These are parallel stitches that slope down two and over two (to the left). Compensate the smaller areas with down one and over one stitches.
Tree Bow—Wrapped Back stitch:
We stitched the bow last, as surface embroidery, but you can also stitch it directly onto the canvas. If you stitch it onto the canvas, we recommend doing this first, before you stitch the tree.
