There was something about the rhythm of stitching and the creativity it sparked that felt like coming home.
My journey with fiber art started with macramé and knitting when I was very young, but everything changed the day I discovered needlepoint. I knew I’d found my happy place.
A New Chapter in California
Having moved to California in 1998 from New Zealand, being a stay-at-home mom in a new country was both a gift and a challenge. I often felt isolated and overwhelmed until one day, I wandered into a local needlepoint shop.
The hand-painted canvases were beautiful, although the experience was confusing and a bit intimidating, especially for a beginner. There were no kits, no clear guidance, just a sea of supplies and unanswered questions. In that moment, the seeds were planted for Poppy Monk.
Making Needlepoint Easy and Fun
I wanted to make needlepoint easy, welcoming, and fun, so I started by importing needlepoint kits, which soon turned into a full-blown passion, and eventually, the business you see today.

What began as a hobby has grown into a creative community I’m incredibly proud of, and I look forward to welcoming you into it. Poppy Monk isn’t just about needlepoint, it’s about slowing down, making something by hand, and connecting with others through a shared love of craft.
Who Is Poppy Monk?
I knew this beautiful business would be a true labor of love, and I wanted its name to be deeply meaningful to me. Poppy is a name I would have chosen for my daughter (who is actually called Sophie), and Monk is our beloved family Vizsla. Together, they felt like the perfect reflection of heart, home, and creativity behind the brand.

Powered by energy drinks and pure sunshine, Lexy keeps our days bright.
She’s our go-to for fun, friendly social media outreach, customer service magic, and lightning-fast shipping.
She loves beaches, stitching, stitching on beaches, her family, and volcanoes—but never erupts at work.
Joyce
Joyce knows everything there is to know about needlepoint—she’s truly our stitching sage, and Poppy Monk’s longest-serving employee—proudly holding elite “Hanging In There” status.
There isn’t a needlecraft Joyce hasn’t overachieved at, and her eye for detail makes her one of our most legendary kit makers.
(Plus, we adore her slightly wicked sense of humor).
Lexi
Lexi with an "i" routinely wins the “most kits made in an hour” award. She giggles her way through every one of them (headphones on, mystery audio playing—we assume it’s us she's amused by).
Lexi loves Tim Tams and wants to study graphic design. We think that one day she'll be a design talent at Poppy Monk.
The heart she uses to dot the “i” in her name tells you everything you need to know.
Vicki
Vicki is our newest team member and is already thriving in the beautiful chaos.
As our unofficial Chief Chaos Coordinator, Vicki has a special talent for pulling all the pieces together and whipping us into shape.
Vicki jumps into marketing, supply chain, social media—basically everything—with effortless skill. She’s just that good.
