Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Fall For Flowers

Floral needlepoint pattern with green, purple, and orange flowers on a beige background

STITCHES USED ON THIS MODEL:

The threads are all used single-stranded, just as they come. Do not separate or join them. You can start anywhere, and you might find it easier to work the detail first and end with the background.

Largest Green Flowers (color Zucchini)—Woven stitch:

Follow the numbers on the diagram as this stitch requires you to use your needle to find the hole beneath the stitch above (which might be partially covering it).

Lilac Flowers—Byzantine #2:

The stitches in red are compensating stitches.

Smaller Flowers (Celestial)—Skip Tent stitch

This can be worked in a Continental or Basketweave direction (diagram shows this).

Flower Centers are French knots:

Work these directly onto the canvas and fill in with Tent stitches around them. We came up and down in the same hole for a tighter/smaller knot. The best tutorials for French knots are on video.
The dark blue detail over the lilac leaves is Back stitch surface embroidery (long, straight stitches of varying length, stitched on top of the underlying Tent stitches). Use a single strand of the dark blue thread.
All the other stitches are Tent stitches (Continental or Basketweave).
