Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Ginger Tabby in Flowers

Ginger Tabby needlepoint design
Our ginger tabby is peeking through the flowers while sporting some fun stitches:

General Notes:

  • Use the threads as a single strand, just as they come, unless otherwise instructed.
  • You can start anywhere on the canvas. We recommend stitching the detail before the background.
  • Follow our stitch guide, stitch it all in Tent stitch, or create your own canvas of stitches; it's up to you!

Ginger Tabby: Bargello Wave pattern

Use the hand-painted Pepperpot Silk. Its variegated pattern will do all the work of giving your tabby cat some stripey texture.

Orange Flower Stems: Mosaic stitch.

The stems are a single column of Mosaic stitches.

Flowers: French knots

If you're unfamiliar with French knots in needlepoint we recommend this Needlepoint Now video on YouTube.

We recommend stitching the Tent stitches first. Leave single stitch gaps to add the French knots directly onto the canvas.

Surface Embroidery:

Use the cotton floss to add detail over the underlying stitches. These lines can be as thick as you want to make them. Start with plying the thread down to 3 strands, and you can thicken or thin it from there as you wish. Use the card as a guide to stitch placement. These are Back stitches.

All the other stitches are regular needlepoint tent stitches.
