Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Santa in the Snow
STITCH GUIDE FOR THIS MODEL
The threads in this kit are Pepperpot Silk. They are designed to be used on this 18-count canvas as a single strand, just as they come (do not separate or join them).
There are two styles of white thread. You can use the metallic for the snowflakes if you choose. This is optional and you can use the Pepperpot Silk in Salt for all the white areas if you prefer.
White Hat and Suit Cuffs—Upright Cross stitch:
This popular stitch is best worked on the diagonal. You can start at the top or bottom of the row.

Red Suit—Nobuko worked in two directions, meeting in the middle:
We joined the two directions of this stitch in the center of the belt buckle.

Black Belt—Satin stitches
These are long parallel stitches of any length (to fit the space). If you have black cotton floss, use all six plies since this is a straight stitch. If your kit contains black silk use the thread just as it is (we have, on occasion, been unable to get black silk).

Santa's Beard—French knots:
French knots are best shown by video, and Youtube already has several good ones so we decided not to reinvent the wheel. To make the stitches nice and tight, come up and down in the same hole. You won't need to stitch every hole—make the stitches as close as you like.
Pompom on Santa's Hat—Rhodes Circle:
You can start anywhere on the circle. The last stitch you place will be the most prominent, but it doesn't matter, in this instance, in which direction this lies. On our pompom, the last stitch is horizontal.

Snowflakes—Hashtag stitch:
Option to use the sparkly white thread here, or Pepperpot Salt.

All the other stitches are Tent stitches. We left the eyes unstitched but you can stitch them if you prefer.
