Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Sardines in Oil

Sardines is one of our most popular kits. We hope you love it, too.
Stripes are hard to accurately print onto needlepoint canvas. This is because the striped lines are perfectly straight and regular, but needlepoint canvas is not. So you may find you need to make some adjustments when stitching. We recommend that, regardless of how the canvas is printed, the white stripes are 7 rows and the green stripes are 6 rows. Inspect your canvas now (before you start stitching) and see if it makes sense to follow this pattern.
The stitches used on this model are:
Green Stripe—Horizontal Parisian Stripe Stitch:
A horizontal long stitch over 4 intersections for one row and over 2 intersections each alternate row.

Red Sardine Can—Satin stitches:
These are long stitches (the length will adjust to fit the space) that are laid down in parallel to get a smooth, shiny effect.
Pink Sardine Can—Mosaic stitch:
Stitch the lettering and the sardine outline (Tent stitch) first, and then fill in with this Mosaic stitch.

Gold Sardine Can bottom—Corduroy Stitch:

Fish Heads—Satin Stitches
All the rest are Tent stitches.
