Needlepoint Stitch Guide for Shy Fox in Wildflowers

Shy Fox in Wildflowers needlepoint

This design by Renea Thull is a joy to stitch.

Use the threads as a single strand—do not separate or join them unless instructed in the stitch guide.

Main Fox Body—Skip Tent

This is an open stitch so anchor your thread in an adjacent area of tent stitches.

Fox Breast—Kalem

This stitch is also called knitting stitch. It is worked in columns. The compensating stitches are in red and placing this straight stitch at the top and bottom closes any gaps.

Fox Face—Double Staggered Gobelin (two directions)

Fox Tail—Diagonal Scotch

The flowers are long stitches to the center in two colors, and anchored by a center French knot.

The surface embroidery uses 3 strands (or a thicker thread if you prefer) of the 6-stranded cotton to free-stitch this detail over the underlying stitches.

All the other stitches are Tent.
